I spent four years at Elon University, a liberal arts school in North Carolina, and then continued on in a Master’s degree program at the University of Delaware. In 2011 I completed a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership (with a specialization in Curriculum, Technology, and Higher Education) from the University of Delaware.

I spent 18 years teaching Social Studies at the High School level. I taught a plethora of subjects, including Government, International Relations, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, World History, U.S. History, and World Religions. I am currently in my 4th year as an assistant principal and I absolutely love it!

I have mentored new teachers in professional development clusters, was the Vice President of the Social Studies Council of Delaware and the Chairperson of the Humanities Council for the Caesar Rodney School District. I was an adjunct instructor at Delaware Technical & Community College for five years. While there I taught Sociology, Human Communications, U.S. History, and Psychology. This is my 11th year as an adjunct professor at Wilmington University in the Social & Behavioral Sciences Department.  I have also designed and facilitated online courses (professional development for teachers) through eLearning Delaware.

Outside of the classroom I enjoy working out (competing in triathlons, running races, yoga, and CrossFit).  I also like to read, drive my jeep to the beach, and travel.  I have been to Africa, Europe, South America, Central America, and the Middle East, including countries such as (3rd World) Senegal, Jordan, and the Czech Republic.  Check out my travel blog here: Ms. Briel’s Wanderlust Blog.

I love to visit my family in the summer and over holidays (as they live far away).  But, what I enjoy most in life is spending time with my husband, Jason! J.png
